No Current Openings – However, we are Accepting Applications for Future Openings Future OpeningsDispatcher The position of Dispatcher is the frontline contact with the citizens in the 9-1-1 system. The Dispatcher will answer the call, make a determination on the type of response required, and route it to the appropriate dispatcher. If necessary, the Dispatcher may give immediate or emergency instructions to the citizen on the telephone. It is the responsibility of the dispatcher to handle as many calls as possible with the highest degree of efficiency and effectiveness. The position of Dispatcher is also responsible to send the appropriate response to a call for service depending on the type and location of the call. Through a set of protocols, the dispatcher controls all dispatches and the radio traffic for police, fire, or EMS. The dispatcher, depending on the activity and personnel staffing level in the center, may be controlling multiple dispatches at any one time and may also act as a call taker. The Dispatcher position has the potential of creating a high liability exposure for the Center. In short, the decisions and actions of the position can result in a lawsuit against the Center or its users. As a result of the liability potential and the responsibilities of the positions, the following traits are required: Mental stability
EMPLOYEE WAGES, BENEFITS, & MISC. Each position starts out with training pay. Training pay is 10% below Step 1 of the position’s salary step range. When an employee is released from training, he or she will go immediately to Step 1. Dispatchers are typically released from training at 5-6 months. For the first 18 months, there is a step increase every six months. Thereafter, step increases are given on an annual basis. Dispatchers are bargaining unit positions under the Teamsters’ Union. SORC is in the third year of a three-year contract which began July 1, 2005.
The following is a table of the current pay range per month for each position:
The Center provides a medical, dental, and vision care plan that covers all employees and their families. Currently SORC pays $953.85 per month per employee for this plan. During the FY 2007-2008 the employee will contribute 3% towards the medical premium beginning in January 2007. SORC also provides life and long-term disability insurance.
